Wonders of the ocean
An underwater world has opened at VilVite Science Center in Bergen, Norway. Planet Ocean invites visitors to dive beneath the surface and discover a world full of life, play and exploration. Designed by NorthernLight, the exhibition takes children and families on an interactive journey through the wonders of the ocean, from kelp forests and ocean creatures to deep-sea exploration, water technology and the oceans of the future. It encourages visitors to explore how water shapes the world and to reflect on how knowledge, innovation and action can help protect our seas. Through hands-on exhibits, immersive storytelling and sensory design, Planet Ocean makes the ocean feel close, relevant and full of discovery.
An underwater world
Planet Ocean takes visitors on an immersive journey from the deep ocean towards sea level. Entering through a kelp forest portal with colourful printed lamellas, visitors are drawn into the feeling of diving beneath the surface. A layered soundscape, atmospheric lighting and an ocean current on the floor guide the route, turning the exhibition into a flowing underwater world.
Along the way, visitors encounter sea creatures, discover ocean fun facts and explore a range of hands-on experiences. They can climb the Jellyfish Climber, operate an ROV in the deep sea, study tiny organisms through a microscope, create their own ocean soundscape and discover how moving water can generate energy. Visitors can also play with real water, create soap bubbles and experiment with the surprising properties of water.
A huge thank you
An exhibition is not created alone. A huge thank you to the team of VilVite Science Center for their trust and collaboration. We would also like to thank Bruns, who was responsible for production, and Create, who developed the multimedia.
