From building collections to making connections
Libraries need to reinvent themselves. Digitalization, social and economic changes, and diminished government influence require a new model for the business of ‘borrowing books’. The library of the future will evolve into a platform for culture, contact and knowledge. Less collection more connection. In Amsterdam the new branch of the OBA Amsterdam Libraries, will combine best knowledge so far in an innovative pilot project.
A living room style as a reading area
The Amsterdam Public Library opens it’s local branch in ’Oost’. New location, new strategy. Located in a high traffic area the library invites passers-by with living room style reading area, digital media, 24 hours service and lots of activities. Fiction is central to this branch; in addition to it’s traditional services it offers digital liter- acy training, access to the Internet and e-books.
