This year China hosted the first Beijing Design Week as a part of their efforts to recognise the creative industry and develop the design industry in China. The Dutch Design Generator featured at the event. This was our chance as a creative industry to show our talents and expertise.

During the week long conference that took place at various different venues in the vast city of Beijing, we had the opportunity to present NorthernLight on numerous occasions including the red star awards, official Pecha Kucha night at the Dutch Design Generator and the open forum. The venue at 751 (next to 798) was amazing and the press coverage was wide, we even made it into the national news.
The bringers of the new
The global interest in NorthernLight and what we do strikes us every time we attend these events. We, as Dutch designers and specifically NorthernLight, are welcomed as the bringers of the new. Our products and services are valued highly by the discussion partners, as we’ve found again this week. During the Matchmaking event, setup by the Dutch DFA, we met industry colleagues who were happy to discuss new possibilities with an understanding that it takes time and experience to create something special. It is clear to us that China and the Chinese are searching for the chance to expand their design portfolio. It’s an exciting time for design in China
