A journey through imagination – emotional storytelling

Unique collaboration

We believe in the power of storytelling; people make sense of their world by stories. To integrate emotional storytelling into their designs, ANDA (one of China’s biggest leading design agencies) has asked NorthernLight as Lead Concept Designer to set out the creative direction for two zones of the new Shandong Science and Technology Museum in China. Shandong has played a major role in Chinese history since the beginning of Chinese civilization and is the perfect setting for a museum that will impact millions of visitors.

Imaginary playgrounds

For the Shandong Science and Technology Museum we’ve created a story concept of travel companions that inspire and empower visitors to explore, discover and guide them through the zones. In the first zone, the children’s gallery, these companions are ‘imaginary friends’ like a robot, a fairy and a rocket man. The central focus of each exhibit area is an imaginary playground. Here, science is used to bring the endless creative imagination of children to life. Instead of introducing children to the world of science, we’ve introduced science into the world of children.

Masterminds of science

In the second zone, visitors are taken on a time travel journey past the greatest scientific discoveries in the fields of traditional Chinese medicine and the invention of light. Visitors are introduced to ground-breaking scientific ideas and inventions and discover the masterminds (and their sometimes strange personalities) who shaped the world as we know it today.
