The Palace’s hidden stories come to life through animated storytelling
The Royal Palace Amsterdam holds many stories including myths that can be found in the paintings and sculptures in the building. The summer exhibition “Hidden Stories, discover the Palace Myths”, explores the palace’s hidden stories in all their richness and variety. NorthernLight was asked to bring these often complex myths, legends and anecdotes to life in an appealing and interactive way, without losing the essence and depth of the stories.
Approach
NorthernLight designed and developed special multimedia stations that are placed throughout the palace, highlighting the hidden stories. Here visitors can watch beautiful ‘flip book style’ animated videos that tell mythological stories in a simple but compelling way. A special spotlight directs the visitor’s eye to the area in the painting that is discussed in the animation. Part of the exhibition is an impressive showcase table, hosting some of the most important historic books. These books were a source of inspiration for the mythological decorations that can be found in the palace.
NorthernLight also designed and produced the impressive exhibition catalogue, as well as a beautiful little flip book. The flip book, which visitors can take home after visiting the exhibition, tells the mythological stories of Atlantis and Icarus.
