Cinematic memory of The Netherlands
Eye Filmmuseum is the national museum for film and is located on Amsterdam’s IJ harbour. The phenomenal building is created by Delugan Meissl Associated Architects, and has become an important landmark in the skyline of Amsterdam. Often called ‘the cinematic memory of The Netherlands’, the basement of Eye features a permanent exhibition centred around film, that consists of two highlights: the Panorama and the Pods.
Browse Eye’s film collection
The Panorama contains a panoramic screen which features regularly alternating film fragments. Visitors can browse Eye’s large film collection with the help of seven control panels. The collection includes nearly 100 regular changing scenes which are grouped around the themes of discovery, film stars, colours, The Netherlands, slapstick, and battle.
Cocoon in the Pods
Fully inspired by the interactive experience in the Panorama, visitors continue their journey at their own pace in the Pods. Their design is inspired by the clean lines of the building, hard on the outside, soft on the inside: an ideal environment to cocoon with friends. In these comfortable viewing cabins with sofas and an immersive cinemascope screen, visitors can watch film fragments and complete films. Well-known Dutch celebrities such as actress Georgina Verbaan, astronaut Wubbo Ockels and actor/director Jeroen Krabbé will virtually guide visitors through their favourite film scenes. Additionally, visitors can play a film quiz inside the Pods.
NorthernLight designed the Pods and the exhibit furniture for the Panorama. All AV hardware was provided by Beam Systems and the multimedia materials were provided by Submarine.
