Greater impact
The new flagship exhibition of World Press Photo has been well received by invited guests and the general public. NorthernLight was responsible for the redesign of the exhibition of the World Press Photo in De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam, where the world premiere started on 13 April 2019. While the content of the exhibition is as inspiring as other years, the exhibition is more engaging and more interactive, creating an even greater impact.
Impressive design
The World Press Photo exhibition presents more than 150 award-winning photos and videos from the world’s largest and most prestigious photography competition. NorthernLight’s impressive design amplifies the scenography while celebrating the church’s gothic architecture of De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. The new design, made attractive for a wider and more diverse audience, gives an individual atmosphere and identity to each photo category. Through an iconic setup, visitors experience the impact a single image can have on a country, the world, the news and social media. The modular display system can form the basis of all World Press Photo exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam in the coming five years.
Connecting visitors to the stories that matter
Striking new elements include World Press Photo Iconic Originals, a selection of original, often signed photos from the rich past of World Press Photo. The rich history and impact of the World Press Photo foundation is getting attention in another new section. Here the iconic timeline, with all year winners since the organization was founded in 1955, has been given a place. And there is an 8-m-tall installation presenting the impact of photography worldwide. At Picture of the Day, people vote for the audience favorite of the day. By turning them into active participants they are truly connected to the stories that matter.
For this project, NorthernLight worked in close collaboration with World Press Photo, De Nieuwe Kerk, multimedia agency YIPP and production agency Iris Vormgeving.
