More interaction, greater impact
NorthernLight is responsible for a redesign of the World Press Photo exhibition in Amsterdam. While the content of the exhibition will be as inspiring as other years, the exhibition will be more engaging and more interactive, creating an even greater impact. NorthernLight’s impressive design amplifies the scenography while celebrating the church’s Gothic architecture. The world premiere of the exhibition will start on 13 April at De Nieuwe Kerk Amsterdam.
Striking new elements
World Press Photo presents the best photos and productions from the past year of visual journalism. Beginning its worldwide tour in Amsterdam, where the award show will also be held, the exhibition showcases photography from the annual World Press Photo competition. The new design gives an individual atmosphere and identity to each photo category. Through an iconic setup, visitors experience the impact a single image can have on a country, the world, the news and social media. Inviting visitors to choose the photo of the day turns them into active participants, truly connecting them to the stories that matter. Striking new elements include Iconic Originals, a selection of original, often signed photos from the rich past of World Press Photo. The rich history and impact of the World Press Photo foundation get attention in another new section. Here the iconic timeline, with all year winners since the organization was founded in 1955, has been given a place. And there is a 8-m-tall installation presenting the impact of photography worldwide.
Attracting a more diverse audience
World Press Photo exhibition 2019 includes interactive and participatory elements, making the exhibition attractive for a more diverse audience – an important goal of both World Press Photo and De Nieuwe Kerk. The modular display system can form the basis of all World Press Photo exhibitions in De Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam in the coming five years. For this project, NorthernLight worked in close collaboration with World Press Photo, De Nieuwe Kerk, multimedia agency YIPP and production agency Iris Vormgeving.
