NorthernLight opens the Asia Pacific office in Shanghai

With the goal to grow the Asian market to create thrilling visitor experiences, renewing brand designs, engaging interior design and innovative multimedia experiences NorthernLight sets foot in Asia and opens her office doors in Shanghai, from the Dutch Design Workspace. Over the last 7 years NorthernLight has build her experience conducting projects in the Asia region, amongst others we have successfully designed New China Science and Technology Museum – Beijing, Science and Technology Park – Hong Kong, DSM Interior/brand experience in close collaboration with Mattmo – Shanghai and Content development and creative consultancy for the Dutch Expo 2010 Pavilion in collaboration with John Körmeling – Shanghai.

The booming metropolis Shanghai has been identified by the Chinese government as the centre for creative industry development in China. Market players have already followed this official policy that started 5 years ago and creative business is flourishing in the city. The workspace is a creative incubator program that is the result from a collaboration with the Dutch Consulate General, the Shanghai Creative Industry Centre, Dutch DFA and FAR architecture and design center, to enable and support starting Dutch enterprises in design, architecture and fashion in china.

The Dutch Design Workspace is located within the inner ring of Shanghai in Jing’an District, just North of the famous French Concession. With the development of the Chinese economy shanghai  has developed itself from the financial center also to the design capital of the east. The workspace is located in a renovated factory building. These type of buildings are part of Shanghai’s industrial heritage. The complex of former factory buildings now functions as a creative cluster and houses several creative enterprises, ranging from advertisement companies to fashion and furniture design shops. Together with 5 spices and MVRDV, NorthernLight was selected to be the first ones to employ the seat in the Workspace.
