Caisson 4 in Watersnoodmuseum.

Location

Waternoodmuseum, Ouwerkerke, the Netherlands

Objective

In this exhibition visitors learn about the various innovation projects that are running in the Southwest Delta. These innovations each have different goals, including increasing safety, stimulating economic growth and improving local ecology.

Approach

At the end of the exhibition visitors can put their knowledge of innovation to the test with the ‘Design Your Own Island’ interactive game. Visitors must imagine a fictional island in which the coastline is receding and the lake is dirty. They must select innovations to improve the Island whilst recognising the consequences each innovation may have. As in real life, money is limited so the visitors must make decisions. What is more important for you; safety, economy or ecology?

After completing the challenge, visitors can share their designs via social media. And as they leave the exhibition, they will see their island on the screensaver in the lobby.
