DIY nature education centre
The Hemmen estate has a rich history set within some 350 acres of woodland, orchards and fields. The estate’s castle provides a beautiful setting to rest, walk and cycle. And now visitors can come to Hemmen to learn too.
The aim of the project was to offer an environmental education to visitors of all ages, with limited resources and real work, the local community made this happen!
Apple barn
So as to compliment the surrounding scenery, the exhibition has been created within an apple barn. The aim of the exhibition was to impart knowledge of the local region and its history to visitors from near and far.
Personal stories and moving images have been used to explain the history of the area, its nature and its people. There is also an interactive aspect of the exhibition in which visitors learn about the environment and how to sustain it.
Through this exhibition the local community and NorthernLight has brought the history and ecology of the Hemmen region to life.
