The value of water
Hidrodoe is an interactive science centre about water in Herentals, Belgium. It was founded in 2003 as an initiative of Pidpa, a Flemish water company. One of the main goals of the science centre is to inform visitors about the value of water in our world; from economical and cultural to chemical and physical. The science centre lets young and old visitors learn about ‘water’ in a playful and interactive way by using all their senses.
Banquet of play and discovery
NorthernLight designed the fascinating exhibition for Hidrodoe that promotes lifelong learning for everyone. At Hidrodoe, learning by doing is key. ‘Hidro’ means water and ‘doe’ is do in Dutch. Through more than 150 interactive experiments, visitors can learn about the value of water while playing. Shoot a hydrogen rocket sky high, experiment with a hydro plant or discover hydro-electric power. Cycle until the water boils and feel how much energy this take, play water soccer by using the power of water or step inside a giant soap bubble. Sit on an ancient Roman toilet, make a huge whirlpool, or lift a car with hydraulic power and so forth. The exhibition offers an irresistible banquet of exciting play and discovery.
Interactive exhibition spaces
NorthernLight designed and developed all exhibits, movies, shows, discovery worlds, displays and computer games in the 1000 square meter venue. Hidrodoe consists of a unique sequence of interactive exhibition spaces, shows and discovery worlds. The exhibition uses a linear routing with free-flow interactive spaces. NorthernLight also designed an outdoor water garden that is directly linked to the inside exhibition. The Blue Water Garden consists of a variety of interactive exhibits that offer great fun.
