NorthernLight, together with NS Poort, composed a handbook with inspiring texts and visuals to help inform the creation of pop-up stalls and shops.
Location
NS Poort, Utrecht, The Netherlands
Objective
NS Poort is a branch of the Dutch Railway service. It is the company responsible for the running and maintenance of the railway stations and their surrounding areas. Their goal is to create diverse, colourful and dynamic stations where all functionality and customer experience are seamlessly integrated. Staying at a NS station should be comfortable and travellers should feel at home at any station.
Pop-up projects at NS stations.
NS Poort has chosen to initiate pop-up projects to increase passenger comfort and to solve the issue of vacant property. The NS Poort hopes that projects that arise from the initiative will include a mix of commercial and non-profit pop-ups. Potential pop-ups include shops, galleries and events – anything that could spice up the station area and surprise travellers, adding excitement and interest to their journey.
The first projects have been rolled out already. In Utrecht, a pop-up Fatboy lounge was in place and in Rotterdam, pop-up gallery, Bazar Bizar surprised travellers at Rotterdam Blaak.
When NS Poort came up with this ingenious project idea, they understood that they needed experienced project managers to initiate and roll out the pop-up projects. They also understood the need to be informed and inspired; this is why they asked NorthernLight to compose a handbook.
Approach
NorthernLight, together with NS Poort, composed a handbook with inspiring texts and visuals to help inform the creation of pop-up stalls and shops. NorthernLight also created a series of examples with custom designs and before and after visuals. The handbook was published in July 2011 and distributed to all NS Poort PROPERTY managers.
