Objective

The backyard of the Dutch Railway Museum consists of a big rail yard. Visitors get a look behind the scenes of how it used to work on a rail yard. The whole area is renovated and brought back to the 1950’s. With working signals, railroad switches and much more. People can wonder around and look and feel how the working life was like at the Maliebaan Station.

Approach

NorthernLight has designed and fabricated an exhibition that brings back the human factor on the rail yard. Several yellow little workmen were created and placed across the area. They all have a different job and job title. These workmen tell about their duties as an employee of the Dutch Railways. From the grumpy depot manager to the young shunter and the hard working signalman. When visitor press the button these little men will tell their stories.

The exhibition is supported with a special tour for children. They are handed a checklist and need to find out what all the workmen do, discover all kinds of secret locations and objects and answer important questions.
