Celebration of Dutch innovation

NorthernLight has been appointed as creative consultant for the visitor experience of Happy Street, the exceptional Pavilion of The Netherlands for the World Expo 2010 in Shanghai. Designed by artist and architect John Körmeling, it is mainly composed of a 400-meter pedestrian street that curves in a figure of eight and features 26 small houses along the street. Each of the 26 distinctive small houses forms a mini pavilion that celebrates Dutch innovation in the use of space, energy and water. “Happy Street” shows the Dutch  innovative and progressive approach towards sustainability, environment and urban development.

Visitor Experience

NorthernLight has worked together with the Dutch authorities and the architect to develop the content and the experiences for these houses. The houses are built in various architectural styles, together representing the Dutch architectural tradition. Modern architecture styles like Gerrit Rietveld as well as reproductions of typical houses from Zaandam, and a replica of the narrowest house in Amsterdam. Each house is a life-size diorama, allowing visitors to discover new dimensions of the Netherlands. The houses contain a variety of tech, art, fashion and video collections.

Smartphone application

NorthernLight also developed a smartphone application that presents in depth information and up-to-date news on the specific topics.
